About Your Therapist

Texas Aloha Massage Therapy was founded on the principle that our bodies have the capacity to heal themselves. Your therapist, Doug Spaeth, LMT, can facilitate this healing through ancient forms of bodywork, such as Hawaiian lomilomi and Thai yoga, harmonizing body, mind, and spirit. It is in the quiet stillness of our nurtured bodies that relief from stress and a new appreciation of ourselves can be found.

Thirteen years ago, Doug moved with his family to Maui, Hawaii where he began his massage training with professional teachers from all over the world. Some of his kapuna (teachers) trained directly under Aunty Margaret Machado of the Big Island, who is known for being the first Hawaiian to bring the practice of lomilomi outside of her ohana (family) so that this traditional Hawaiian bodywork would live on.

After graduating from massage school in 2003, Doug went on to work at several resort spas in Hawaii. He has also worked at a healing arts center and an athletic club in the San Juan Islands of Washington and an athletic club and a chiropractic office in the Midwest. Before becoming a massage therapist, Doug was a Montessori elementary school teaher in Massachusetts and a science specialist at a children's museum in Ohio. He spent ten years of his childhood in France and is fluent in French and English.
